Treat Huey to call shots for IPTL Mavericks

Treat Huey gets the chance to shuffle a superstar-filled team led by Maria Sharapova, Andy Murray and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga after the Filipino tennis ace was named playing coach of the Manila Mavericks for the International Premier Tennis League which starts later this month.

The 29-year-old Huey, who recently won a title in Charlottesville, Virginia, said he was thrilled to be given the honor to lead the Mavericks and play with the sport’s greatest talents in front of his countrymen.

“It’s an honor to be a member of the Manila Mavericks,” said Huey in a Twitter message. “I am really excited for the season and especially for the first three nights in Manila.

“I think we have a very good chance of winning.”

Now ranked 40th in the world in doubles from as high as 21st in late 2013, Huey paired with Frederick Nielson to top the doubles of the Charlottesville Men’s Pro Challenger Saturday. Marc Anthony Reyes
