MANILA, Philippines — PLDT Home Telpad hopes to continue its dominance of a Meralco team trying to salvage what has been a winless campaign as they start their series for third place Tuesday in the women’s division of the Shakey’s V-League Season 11 Third Conference at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Turbo Boosters and Power Spikers collide at 4 p.m. with PLDT looking to make it three in a row against Meralco in the season-ending tournament.
Far Eastern University and Rizal Technological University also begin their own series for third in the men’s division.
Having beaten the Blue Thunder twice in the elimination round, the Tamaraws are also heavy picks in their series starting at 2 p.m.
RTU, however, has shown plenty of fight recently with the Blue Thunder dragging the Tamaraws into a couple of five-setters before finally yielding.
Joshua Barrica, Greg Dolor, Joel Cayaban, Jeric Gacutan and Lucky Margante are expected to lead the Tamaraws, who are using the tournament to prepare for the upcoming UAAP wars.
The Turbo Boosters swept the Power Spikers in their two meetings with PLDT scoring a three-set romp, 25-18, 25-21, 25-19, last Oct. 9.
But Meralco showed marked improvement in their second round meeting before taking a 20-25, 14-25, 25-22, 25-16, 15-17 loss last Oct. 21.
The Power Spikers will have Kotruang Wanida of Thailand and Misao Tanyama of Japan as reinforcements against a PLDT team also teeming with talent.
Gretchel Soltones will spearhead the PLDT’s charge.
