Women basketball players have nowhere to go after their collegiate careers are over. Not anymore.

The Pinay Ballers League opens shop Nov. 8 at Rizal Memorial Coliseum with nine teams, all made up of former national and collegiate women players, seeing action.

Among the teams are Air Force, PNP, Army, Diliman United, Kairos, Pacman Warrior. Players will come from the UAAP, WNCAA, Naascu and the national squad.

“I’ve been teaching kids the fundamentals of the game,” PBL president Merenciana “Ewon” Arayi said in yesterday’s PSA Forum at Shakey’s Malate. “But how can I inspire these kids if there’s no league where they can play after college? This gives former collegiate players a platform to further excel.” June Navarro
