Patrick Deyto lifts Global into UFL FA Finals

MANILA, Philippines — Patrick Deyto wasn’t about to miss the biggest game of his club football career.

And his decision proved wonders for Global.

Bucking the ill-effects of a long flight, the goalkeeper helped lift Global past Loyola Meralco, 2-1, Tuesday night and into the finals of the United Football League’s FA League Cup at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Deyto, who played for the national team in the 3-0 win over Nepal last Saturday, came straight from a nine-hour flight from Qatar.

He pulled off a string of impressive saves, before substitutes Izzo El-Habbib and Edgar Briones struck for Global.

“That’s why I came here to Global to play in games like this,” said Deyto, who denied Phil Younghusband from close range at the hour-mark before Briones scored in the 85th minute.

Mark Hartmann set up El-Habbib for a tidy first-time finish in stoppage time.

Younghusband grabbed a late consolation from the penalty spot to peg the final score.
