MANILA, Philippines—With their pesky style of play, the Rizal Technological University Blue Thunder kept their medal hopes alive after shocking the Far Eastern University Tamaraws 3-0, 36-34, 25-19, 25-22, in the men’s division battle for third of the Shakey’s V-League Season 11 Foreign Reinforced Conference at The Arena in San Juan Thursday afternoon.
Due to a superior quotient, the Blue Thunder now has better chances of winning the bronze medal over the Tamaraws should the Systema Active Smashers—already armed with a one-win advantage–sweep their best-of-three championship series against the Instituto Estetico Manila Volley Masters.
If IEM wins the second game, the both series will be extended to a winner-take-all affair.
FEU disposed of RTU in four sets in the first game on Tuesday, 30-28, 21-25, 25-16, 25-23.
Jaidal Abdul Majid led RTU with 15 points with Carlo Sebastian and Sabtal Abdul adding 13 and 11 respectively.
“Pressure is not on us, we have nothing to lose,” RTU head coach George Pascua said. “Compared to our first game, we did not have any communication whatsoever, this time, we just enjoyed it.”
RU bounced back from four-setter loss to FEU and started things off with a 35-minute first set that paved the way for their sweep.
Greg Dolor led the Tams with 14 with Joshua Barrica and Jeric Gacutan combining for 20.
