MANILA, Philippines—With their guns ablazing from the get-go, the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters stormed the Barako Bull Energy with a defensive onslaught, 93-67, during their skirmish at the PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum Friday evening.

Rain or Shine had the artisan’s touch immediately in the first quarter holding Barako Bull to an embarrassing nine percent field goal percentage with the Energy only converting on two attempts out of 23.

Starting things off early, the Elasto Painters went berserk on a 12-0 stroke that put them ahead 25-5 with less than two minutes remaining in the first quarter.

Elasto Painters Assistant Coach Caloy Garcia said the devastating 99-76 loss to Talk N’ Text on Sunday fueled his team’s hunger.

“The loss was a motivation for us,” Garcia said who filled in for head coach Yeng Guiao who was attending a conference in Hong Kong. “We can’t perform if the effort is not there.”

“We we’re not moving the ball back then (during the loss), and today we came out strong.”

Rain or Shine guard Jeric Teng converted on back-to-back baskets midway through the second quarter with his right corner triple putting the scores at 44-21.

“We can’t be complacent, first four games we did not show our real brand of basketball,” Garcia said as his team nailed a 3-2 win-loss slate.

Rain or Shine went on an 8-0 run to close the first half, 55-28, with Jeff Chan hitting back-to-back triples.

Chan had an impressive evening with a 23-point 10-rebound three-steal line to lead the Elasto Painters.
