MANILA, Philippines — Alaska center Sonny Thoss missed the game against Kia on Tuesday due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot.

The 6-foot-7 Thoss said he’s been bothered by it since the start of this season.

“It’s been going on and off for a while this season,” Thoss told INQUIRER.net.

Thoss has been averaging 8 points and 6.2 rebounds per game on just 35% shooting from the field through four games.

Clearly, Thoss isn’t as effective as he wanted to be so far but his teammates have stepped up with him groping for form.

“Everybody’s stepping up. Anybody could go off any night and that’s the good thing about this team,” said Thoss.

Leading the way so far for the Aces is their third-year forward Calvin Abueva, who has been producing import-like numbers in the 2015 Philippine Cup.

Abueva put up 23 points and 20 rebounds in an 85-75 win over Kia to help Alaska improve to a league-best 5-0 record.

“He’s an animal. He’s everywhere offensively and defensively and we’re proud of him,” Thoss said of the 2012 Rookie of the Year Abueva.

Thoss said he is still not sure when he’ll return.

“I don’t know yet, Thoss said. “I’m going to talk to my trainers and try to figure out what I need to do.”

“He is day-to-day,” his head coach Alex Compton said.
