Lady Altas start quest for 4th title

FANCIED squads Perpetual Help, Arellano University and San Sebastian battle separate foes in today’s start of the women’s division of the 90th NCAA volleyball competitions at MOA Arena in Pasay City.

Seeking a fourth straight title, the Perpetual Help Lady Altas battle the Jose Rizal Lady Bombers in the second game of a heavy five-game schedule while the Lady Chiefs, last season’s second placers, tangle with the Mapua Lady Cardinals in the curtain-raiser at 9 a.m.

The Lady Stags collide with the Lyceum Lady Pirates in the fourth game.

The other matches pit College of St. Benilde against Letran in the third game and San Beda versus Emilio Aguinaldo College in the fifth and final match.

Arellano’s Peter Cayco, who chairs the group organizing volleyball, said Shakey’s V-League tournament’s Moying Martelino will be the guest speaker during the opening rite at 8 a.m.

The men’s competition unfolds tomorrow with Perpetual Help ushering in its sixth-peat feat campaign by facing off Jose Rizal U at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Perpetual Help is favored to win its fourth straight crown despite losing reigning MVP Royse Tubino and former MVP Norie Jane Diaz to graduation.

“We still have the championship mind-set and the experience—these give us the confidence,” said Perpetual coach Sammy Acaylar.
