CIGNAL HD sets its sights on win No. 4 when it battles Generika, while Mane ’N Tail shoots for its third win as it faces Foton today in the Superliga Grand Prix women’s volleyball presented by Asics at Cuneta Astrodome.
The HD Spikers and the Lady Stallions, both on the trail of the runaway leader Petron Blaze Spikers, hope to inch closer to the Final Four.
Newcomer Cavite tries for win No. 2 when it battles Bench-Systema in the lone men’s match.
Powered by imports Lindsay Stalzer and Sarah Ammerman, Cignal can fortify its hold of the No. 2 spot and set its momentum going into the second round.
But Generika can’t be counted out especially with Miyo Shinohara and Natalia Korovkova for the Life Savers.
Teams are battling for slots to the final four, where the No. 1 faces No. 4, and No. 2 takes on No. 3, in the crossover semis. The winners will then square off in a knockout championship game.
The Lady Stallions have a strong chance to squeeze their way to the top four. And last Sunday, they showed they can win big games.
Mane ’N Tail displayed its dominance as it stomped on Generika (25-22, 25-15, 25-21) to move up in the standings. It also proved that it can compete as one cohesive unit and not lean heavily on big scorers like Kristy Jaeckel and Kaylee Manns.
Foton, the only winless squad in the women’s division, still can advance if the Tornadoes win at least three of their last five matches and the fourth-ranked team loses all its games.
