Tan sweeps Petron Blaze kart legs

BRE-MOTUL karters Paul Laurence Tan and Ronn Catindig dominated the fifth and sixth legs of the Formula SQ125 division recently in the 2014 Petron Blaze 100 ROK Cup Karting Super Series at Carmona Racetrack.

Tan swept the SQ 125 Novice class to tow Catindig to a 1-2 finish in the fifth leg and a 1-3 finish in the sixth leg.

“The team really worked hard through the tiring weekend races and I’d like to give credit to our coach, Pacho Blanco, for all the advice and inputs all throughout the two-leg event and also to our mechanics Ramel Ret Esparagoza, Paulo Ferrer and Chris Castrovuevo, who did an excellent job in the set-up, adjustment and repair of our karts,” said Tan.

Tan bucked mechanical problems that slowed him in the time trials and sent him starting last on the pre-final grid.

He staged a blistering rally on the way to finishing first. But he was slapped with a 10-second penalty for a violation, dragging him to fifth spot in the final race of the fifth leg.

Tan bucked a collision with rival Rhette Holganza in the first lap en route to claiming the victory.

Catindig bagged runner-up honors as Jericke Holganza, TJ Berjamin and Rhette Holganza wound up third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

Tan later topped both the pre-final and final races of the sixth leg to complete his sweep, beating runner-up Jericke Holganza.
