BIGGER opportunities could be in store for Donnie “Ahas” Nietes.
That was the Filipino’s motivation against Mexican Carlos Velarde in their battle for the WBO light flyweight crown at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel at presstime last night.
Michael Aldeguer, president of ALA Promotions, told sportswriters late Friday that if Nietes wins in the headliner of Pinoy Pride XXVIII , he would be included in their next fight card set Feb. 14, 2015 in Macau.
Nietes’ opponent will be decided based on his performance against Velarde, according to Aldeguer.
If he wins impressively, Nietes is likely to move up to the 112 division, where there are a lot of popular opponents available.
If he struggles past Velarde, then ALA promotions will make him stay at 108 pounds, at least for another bout.
Also to be included in the Macau card, Aldeguer said, is light welterweight prospect Jason Pagara (34-2 with 21 knockouts), older brother of rising star Albert Pagara.
Prospective flyweight opponents for Nietes are World Boxing Council champion Roman Gonzales of Nicaragua and WBO titlist Juan Francisco Estrada of Mexico.
