Adamson ends SSC-Excelroof V-League run
MANILA, Philippines–San Sebastian-Excelroof’s four-game winning run with a thrilling five-set triumph Thursday night in the Shakey’s V-League Season 7 second conference at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan. The 16-25, 26-24, 25-23,16-25, 15-10 victory also assured the Lady Falcons of at least a playoff for a place in the quarterfinals. Stunned by Far Eastern U in their previous game, the Lady Falcons regrouped against the Lady Stags, putting up a resolute net defense and a balanced attack to join Lyceum and FEU in a three-team tie for third with a 3-2 record. Tipped to go all the way following the absence of University of Santo Tomas, the Lady Stags, who posted their first four wins via straight-sets, still lead the pack with a 4-1 card. The Lady Falcons were badly outhit, but they made up for it by putting a blanket at the net in crucial moments to snatch the victory in an hour and 46 minutes. Michelle Laborte, held to just five points in the loss to FEU, bounced back with 11, including five off blocks. Nerissa Bautista finished with 21 hits while Angela Benting added 13 for the Lady Falcons, who could clinch a quarterfinal berth with a victory over St. Benilde.
