Jon Lucas sinks game-winner, Daniel Padilla scores 28 points in Hoops for Hope
MANILA, Philippines – Jon Lucas, best known from the series Got To Believe, knocked down the game-winning basket as Burlington Premiere edged Daniel Padilla’s Biogesic Fast Fizz team, 90-89, in the highly entertaining Hoops for Hope, a charity basketball game featuring Kapamilya talents and collegiate basketball stars, on Sunday, November 16 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Lucas gave Burlington the victory with the go-ahead putback with just 6.7 seconds left to play to cap off an exciting match-up that was for the benefit of the children from World Vision Philippines and Child Haus Foundation.
Padilla’s Biogesic team lost the game but they won the fans’ adulation as Padilla teamed up with top college ballers Kiefer Ravena of the Ateneo Blue Eagles and Jeron Teng of the De La Salle Green Archers. Padilla showcased his basketball wares to the shrieks of the fans and tallied 28 points while Ravena put on a dunking clinic of his own. Teng, on the other hand, contributed 16 markers.
By the end of the night, Hoops for Hope had achieved its goal of giving a great time to the children who were either victims of recent calamities or suffering from illness.
Included in the Biogesic team are Kapamilya stars Young JV, Patrick Sugui, Dominic Roque, and Gerard Acao. They were joined by Mac Belo of Far Eastern University, Roi Sumang and Bong Galanza of University of the East, Matthew Aquino of Adamson University, and Andretti Stevens of Mapua.
The winning Burlington team is comprised of Lucas, Neil Coleta, Diego Loyzaga, John Manalo, and Marco Gumabao. Rounding out the team were Ateneo’s Thirdy Ravena (Kiefer’s younger brother) and Kris Porter, FEU’s Mike Tolomia and Roger Pogoy, UE’s Chris Javier, La Salle’s Arnold Van Opstal, and College of St. Benilde’s Jonathan Grey.
The Hoops for Hope charity basketball game will air on Sunday, November 23 from 9 to 11 PM over at ABS-CBN Sports and Action. advt
