There were no surprises in the final round as the La Salle Zobel juniors and the girls’ teams of Ateneo, Assumption College and Immaculate Conception Academy streaked to victories in the 2014 ICTSI Inter-School golf championship recently.
With Jets Sajulga leading the attack, DLSZ dropped its biggest bomb in the final round—a 158-point effort at Eastridge Golf Club in Binangonan, Rizal—to highlight a 141-point victory in juniors’ play.
Sajulga scored 56 points and joined hands with Aniceto Mandanas (51), Liam Cully (43), Steven Ferrer (42) and Derrico Maunahan (41) to dominate their rivals in tournament backed mainly by International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) Foundation with the support of Philippine Golf Foundation, Martin Lorenzo, Golf Depot and Inquirer Golf.
Ateneo prevailed in Girls 1, Assumption claimed the Girls 2 crown and ICA captured the Girls 3 plum at Ayala South Links course, leaving the Seniors’ class as the only remaining title to be disputed in the four-month series that attracted more than 500 juniors from 40 different schools all over the country.
Ateneo’s Paulina Sotto and Charlene Abalos totalled 244 to beat La Salle-Taft by 105; Samantha and Nikki Bruce and Bianca Pagdanganan delivered a 67-point win over St. Paul’s College and ICA, made up of Mariel Tee, Justine Teh and Venice Ngo, finished with a 306 to win by 70 over DLSZ.
The individual champions were Sajulga in juniors, Sotto in Girls 1, Bruce in Girls 2 and Jona Magcalayo of La Salle Zobel in Girls 3.
Sotto beat teammate Abalos by 14, Bruce edged Pagdanganan by a mere point and Magcalayo won over Tee by 21.
Sajulga’s last day explosion steered him past Luis Castro of Learning Links Academy by three points for the juniors’ plum.
