La Salle picks apart NU in three sets

MANILA, Philippines—They just left their felled opponents green with envy.

Showing that they are one of the elites of the league, the De La Salle University Lady Spikers shot down the National University Lady Bulldogs 3-0, 25-22, 25-12, 25-15, during their first round matchup of the UAAP Season 77 Volleyball Tournament at the Arena in San Juan City Wednesday afternoon.

La Salle had little to do to finish the game off when NU’s Rizza Jane Mandapat gave the Lady Spikers the match point in the third set, 24-15, with an untimely service error that went too far out of the mat.

A first set close call was not enough to rattle the Lady Spikers as they pulled the leash of the young Lady Bulldogs in the second set, 25-12.

Lady Spikers head coach Ramil de Jesus, despite the convincing victory, said they still have to develop as a team even with a 2-0 start.

“There are still things that have to be developed, of course there are times when the players have their off games,” de Jesus said.

De Jesus, nonetheless, was happy with the start and how his players performed.

“I’m happy with how they played today.”

Ara Galang and Kim Dy led the scoring charge for La Salle with 15 and 10 respectively while Kim Fajardo added eight.

Jaja Santiago was the lone bright spot for the 0-2 NU with 10 points.
