Generika repulses Petron gals

Generika stunned Petron even as Foton shocked Cignal last night in the Philippine Superliga women’s volleyball Grand Prix at Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna.

The surging Life Savers hacked out a 18-25, 25-12, 25-20, 18-25, 15-11 triumph over the league leaders Blaze Spikers to register their sixth straight victory and boosted their morale going into the semifinals.

“We’re aiming to increase the confidence of the locals entering the semifinals,” said Generika assistant coach Benson Bocboc who coached the team in lieu of Ramil de Jesus, who had a pressing commitment in the UAAP.

Earlier, Foton salvaged something from a bleak maiden stint in the league after downing an off-form Cignal, 25-19, 25-17, 22-25, 25-23.

The Tornadoes posted their third win in 10 matches, tying the Mane ’N Tail Lady Stallions in the standings. But they will still be in sixth place due to the quotient system. The HD Spikers will still advance to the crossover semifinals with a 4-6 record.

Russian imports both gave a superb swan song for Foton as Irina Tarasova drilled in 25 points, while Elena Tarasova unloaded 20 as the Tornadoes raged on from the opening set onward.

On the other hand, Julie Ammerman looked like she’s the only one who showed up ready to fight as she made 21 points for the HD Spikers. Though it is booked for a semis match against Petron, Cignal looked like a rudder-less boat, losing five of its last six games.
