Ateneo and La Salle cruised past separate opponents to share the early lead with two victories in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament yesterday at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Eagles downed Adamson in straight sets, 25-16, 25-18, 25-14, with Alyssa Valdez leading the attack anew to finish with 15 points for the defending champions.
La Salle standout Ara Galang also highlighted her 15-point effort with five service aces to power the Lady Spikers, last season’s runner-up, to a 25-22, 25-12, 25-15 drubbing of National University.
Both the Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Falcons remained winless in two outings.
NU, though, got its men’s title defense off to a 2-0 start as Rueben Inaudito and Peter Torres teamed up for 25 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 25-17, 25-23, 18-25, 25-13 victory over Far Eastern University.
The Falcons, meanwhile, pulled off an upset over last season’s finalist Ateneo, 20-25, 27-25, 25-20, 25-15. Jasmine W. Payo
