Ateneo de Iloilo, UV bag BEST crowns
ROXAS City—Ateneo de Iloilo and University of the Visayas scored contrasting wins as they bagged the SBP and Passerelle division championships at the Visayas Regional Finals of the 2014 Milo BEST SBP Passerelle Twin Tournament.
Ateneo de Iloilo came from behind to nip University of San Carlos of Cebu, 44-42, and win the SBP division title, while UV trounced Hua Siong College of Iloilo, 57-35, for the Passerelle crown.
In the SBP division title game, Ian Espinosa scored a layup that tied the game at 42 then found Gem Gregorio for a layup that gave Ateneo a 44-42 edge, 10.6 seconds left.
Espinosa and Gregorio had earlier helped Ateneo chip at several double-digit holes, the last at 28-38, which the duo helped wipe out with a 10-0 run.
In the Passerelle final, Denzel Sabroso poured all his 12 points in a 12-2 run that gave UV a commanding 29-11 lead at halftime.
