MANILA, Philippines–Malacañang is not sure whether President Benigno Aquino III will be able to attend the Azkals’ game against Thailand at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum on Saturday.
“Aalamin po natin. Wala pa tayong partikular na impormasyon hinggil diyan,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a briefing.
(We’ll check. We still have no particular information on that.)
Azkals’ team manager Dan Palami earlier said they hoped Aquino could watch the semifinals match of the Asean Football Federation’s Suzuki Cup. He said the support of the President and the public would help boost the morale of the players.
“Siyempre po lahat tayo, gusto nating mag-(cheer), gusto nating makita ‘yung pagwawagi ng Philippine Azkals,” Coloma said.
(Of course all of us want to cheer, want to see the triumph of the Philippine Azkals.)
Coloma pointed out that since the team became popular, the public has always been excited to see their games.
“Sila ay malaki na ang naging advance in the rankings of our Philippine Football Team from the time the Azkals were formed several years ago,” he added.
(Their advance in the rankings have been substantial, from the time the Azkals was formed several years ago.)
Coloma said Filipinos can expect their ranking to further improve.
“Malaking bahagi nito ay nakabatay hindi lamang sa kanilang kahusayan at atletisismo, kundi rin sa pagsuporta ng buong sambayanan. Kaya kaisa po natin ang mga Azkals sa paghahangad ng tagumpay,” he said.
(A large part of this is based not only on their good performance and athleticism but also in the support of the people. That is why we are one with the Azkals in vying for success.)
