Magis lean on ex-pros, trounce AFP Cavaliers

Former PBA players Don Camaso and Ariel Capus scored 24 points apiece as Judiciary stunned defending champion Armed Forces of the Philippines, 93-76, in the 3rd UNTV Cup Wednesday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

Still strong and quick at 41, the

6-foot-6 Camaso, who once played for Talk ‘N Text in the pros, also hauled down 13 boards for his first double-double feat of the season.

Capus was deadlier on offense, finishing with an impressive 7-of-10 shooting from the field, including 2-of-4 from the three-point zone, as the Judiciary Magis roared to their second straight win in Group B of the 11-tournament presented by UNTV.

John Hall, a model, also contributed significantly to Judiciary’s cause as he finished with 19 points, including eight in a pivotal third period that saw the Magis outscore the Cavaliers, 27-14, to pull away for good.

The AFP Cavaliers slipped to 1-1, the same record of GSIS which scored an 86-81 win over the National Housing Authority Builders.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police Responders forged a two-way tie for the Group A lead with the Malacañang Patriots by crushing the House of Representatives Solons, 110-64.

Joseph Francisco and former University of the East star Ollan Omiping led PNP’s well-balanced attack by scoring 16 and 14 points, respectively, for its second straight win.

The champion team in the annual event organized by broadcaster Daniel S. Razon of UNTV will receive P1.5 million.

The prize money will be donated to its chosen beneficiary.
