With Typhoon “Ruby” expected to hit the entire Visayas region today, the national finals of the Batang Pinoy set in Bacolod City has been moved a day later, top officials announced yesterday.
From the original schedule of Dec. 9 to 13, the national finals will now be held from Dec. 10 to 14, according to Philippine Sports Commission Richie Garcia.
Garcia added that they are closely monitoring the path of the typhoon, expected to be the strongest to hit the country this year.
“We are moving the schedule a day later and we are observing the weather,” Garcia added.
About 5,000 student-athletes aged 15 and below will converge in Bacolod City after surviving the three qualifying legs in Mindanao, Visayas and Luzon.
The Mindanao leg was held in September in Pagadian City, the Visayas leg in October in Kalibo, Aklan and the Luzon qualifiers last month in Naga City.
A seminar for coaches has been set among the activities lined up for officials prior to the opening on Dec. 10, according to the event website.
