Lyceum-Cavite cruises to first interschools win over DLSU

LYCEUM of the Philippines University-Cavite ruled the seniors’ division for its breakthrough win in the ICTSI-JGFP National Interschools Golf Championships that ended recently at  Ayala Greenfield Golf and Leisure Club in Calamba, Laguna.

The Lyceum golfers made up of National team mainstay Rupert Zaragosa, Jelbert Gamolo, Janzen Morilla and Luigi Guerrero, announced their arrival as the collegiate team to beat by pooling 590 points to finish far ahead of former champion La Salle-Taft and College of St. Benilde in the best four-out-of-five rounds that capped the competition sponsored by the ICTSI Foundation and organized by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines.

Zaragosa and Gamolo completed the Lyceum domination by finishing 1-2 in the individual competition with their 213 and 199 points, respectively.

JP de Claro of the University of the Philippines placed third with his 196.

La Salle placed second with 495 and College of St. Benilde with 461 in the event also sponsored by the Philippine Golf Foundation, Martin Lorenzo, Golf Depot and Inquirer Golf.

La Salle was composed of Eric Gallardo, AR Ramos, Miggy Yee, Inigo Raymundo and Tonton Arevalo, while College of St. Benilde was composed of GJ Katigbak, Jae Min Soo, Marvin Siy and Paolo Salvador.

Earlier, Ateneo, Assumption College and Immaculate Concepcion Academy won the three divisions of girls’ play.

La Salle Zobel took the juniors and Midgets 2 plum and Ateneo captured the Midgets 1 crown.

The top teams in the Interschool series, including those from the Visayas and Mindanao eliminations, will collide in the national finals on Jan. 19 and 20 at Orchard Golf and Country Club.
