Ateneo, DLSU tossers keep women’s lead
ATENEO’S Alyssa Valdez and De La Salle’s Ara Galang sustained their explosive forms to keep their squads unbeaten in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament yesterday at Filoil Flying V Arena.
Valdez tossed in a game-high 22 points as the defending champion Lady Eagles disposed of University of Santo Tomas in straight sets, 25-21, 25-13, 25-19, to stretch their perfect run to four games.
The Lady Spikers kept pace with the Lady Eagles as Ara Galang fired 20 points in their 25-16, 25-20, 25-2 rout of University of the Philippines.
Article continues after this advertisement“We’re happy with the results of our game,” said Valdez, who will fly to Palembang, Indonesia with the core of the Lady Eagles today to represent the country in the Asean University Games.
Both the Tigresses and the Lady Maroons slipped to 1-3.
Only defending champion National University kept a clean slate in men’s action after tripping erstwhile undefeated UST in a gruelling five-setter, 25-22, 25-20, 23-25, 27-29, 15-5.

Over at Blue Eagles gym, defending champion NU and Ateneo pulled off narrow escapes versus separate opponents in juniors basketball to share the lead at 3-0.
John Clemente buried the game-winner with four seconds left to lift the Bullpups past La Salle Zobel, 59-57, while the Blue Eaglets slipped past Far Eastern University in overtime, 76-73.
UST also overpowered UP, 60-48, while Adamson routed University of the East, 68-37.
