National University and Adamson drubbed separate opponents to stay in the top four of women’s volleyball, while defending champion Far Eastern University kept the top spot in men’s football of the UAAP yesterday.
Quickly adjusting to her new role as an open hitter, Mylene Paat unloaded 17 points to lift the Lady Falcons to a 25-19, 27-25, 25-13 victory over the Lady Tamaraws at Filoil Fying V Arena in San Juan.
Jessica Galanza added 16 hits and Amanda Villanueva posted three blocks in a 10-point outing to help the Lady Falcons improve to a 2-2 record.
NU tied Adamson for third spot after the Lady Bulldogs downed University of the East, 25-22, 25-11, 25-17, in the other match.
Myla Pablo and Jaja Santiago took charge with a combined 23 hits for the Lady Bulldogs.
Both winners trail idle leaders Ateneo and La Salle, which share top spot with perfect 4-0 slates.
In men’s football, FEU was held to a 1-1 draw by La Salle but the Tamaraws still remained on top with seven points on a 2-1-0 win-draw-loss card at Moro Lorenzo Football Field in Ateneo.
Nicolas Ferrer fired a goal in the 26th minute to put the Tamaraws up, but Nate Alquiros levelled the match for the Green Booters with a penalty kick five minutes later.
La Salle improved to five points, followed by University of the Philippines, Ateneo and NU with four each.
UP standout Jinggoy Valmayor scored both goals in the Maroons’ 2-0 shutout of University of Santo Tomas, while the Blue Booters and the Bulldogs battled to a 2-2 draw.
UE also tallied three points following a 3-1 triumph over Adamson.
In women’s play, UP seized top spot with six points after posting a 1-0 upset over defending champion FEU on a 42nd-minute goal by Marie Navea-Huff.
