Pontillas keeps OPBF title
MANILA—Ronald Pontillas retained his Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation super featherweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision over compatriot Jun Talape in a recent fight card in Muntinlupa City.
The 21-year-old Pontillas prevailed in a battle of southpaws with two judges scoring the fight for the defending champion, 114-112, while the third had him the winner by a 116-109 margin.
Pontillas, who won the title with a first-round TKO of Japan’s undefeated Masao Nakanura last May 7, thus boosted his record to 13-3-3 with 6 knockouts.
Talape lost by a ninth-round knockout to Romania’s Viorel Simion (13-0, 6 KO’s) in a WBC International featherweight title fight in Bucharest last July 9.
