MANILA, Philippines–Keeping their slate merry as a whistle, the Hapee Fresh Fighters cleaned house at the expense of Wangs Basketball, 65-43, during their PBA D-League Aspirants Cup duel at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig Thursday afternoon.
Hapee was spotless in the second quarter when they obliterated the limped Wangs allowing only two points and scoring 19 of their own.
NCAA Most Valuable Player Scottie Thompson and big man Ola Adeogun owned the second period for the Fresh Fighters combining for 13 points in the quarter.
Hapee head coach Ronnie Magsanoc said their defense was vital during their second quarter domination stopping the perimeter shooting and the penetration of Wangs.
“We made the necessary stops in the second, and that made the difference,” Magsanoc said as his team reigns over the competition with a 6-0 win-loss card.
“Wangs is a shooting team, once we stop their three-pointers, that’s it.”
After a shaky third period, Hapee was back on form in the final quarter with an 11-1 run to start the fourth with Garvo Lanete hitting back-to-back three-pointers to give Hapee a 27-point lead, 62-35.
Lanete led the Hapee scorers with 15 points with Thompson and Rayray Parks adding 11 points apiece.
Mark Acosta was the lone bright spot for the 2-4 Wangs as he put up 15 points.
