Manila Mavs lose second straight game

For the second straight day in the IPTL Dubai leg, the Manila Mavericks tumbled and fell short, this time against leader Micromax Indian Aces, 28-23, late Friday night.

Gael Monfils, France’s former No. 1 player, snapped Jo-Wilfred Tsonga’s eighth-game winning streak with a powering 6-2 victory in the men’s singles event.

After ending the Indian leg at joint second with Musafir.com UAE Royals, the Mavericks, who have a combined score of 31 points, are now two points behind the Royals and seven points behind the leading Aces.

Filipino sports patron Jean Henri Lhuillier is the Manila Mavericks’ team manager.

Aside from Monfils, other members of the Indian Aces squad also prevailed. Fabrice Santoro outplayed Mark Philippoussis, 6-3, in the battle of past champions.
