Superal tops Jakarta golf, tabs 12th win

PRINCESS Superal picked up another victory to close out a sterling season, rallying from three strokes down to beat local ace Ida Ayu Indira with a five-under 67 for the Pondok Indah International Junior golf crown at Pondok Indah Golf Course in Jakarta late Thursday.

Superal’s 12th title victory  capped a victorious season highlighted by her record romp in the US Girls Juniors. She also won her last five tournaments of the year.

“I’m happy with this comeback win,” said Superal, who pooled a one-over 217 in the 54-hole tournament to repulse Indira, who hobbled home with a 72 for 220.

Superal also steered her ICTSI-Philippines trio with Sam Martinez and Yuka Saso to the team championship.

Indira settled for the 15-18 division crown, beating Martirez, who had a 226 after a 78, while erstwhile joint leader Abegail Arevalo lost her touch and skied to an 80 for 227.

Sofia Chabon wound up second in the 13-14 category with 222 after a 72, five strokes behind Malaysia’s Ashley Lau, who ran away with the crown with 217, also after a 72.

The 16-year-old Superal’s amazing five-title run included victories in the Future Champions Golf in Temecula, the ICTSI Ladies Philippine Golf Tour at Sherwood, Asean Schools at Valley Golf and SICC Singapore Juniors.
