Miller powers Legends to title
WILLIE Miller led the Siargao Legends to an 85-79 overtime win against Hobe-JVS to rule the 4th DELeague Invitational basketball tournament Wednesday at Marikina Sports Center.
Miller, a two-time PBA Most Valuable Player, scored 20 points, including two three-pointers that helped forge overtime, and free throws in the dying seconds that secured the Legends’ win.
A Miller trey tied the match at 71-all before Hobe regained the upperhand as import Jabril Bailey also sank a triple, 3.8 seconds left in regulation. Miller sent the game to an extra period after another three-pointer as time expired.
Article continues after this advertisementIn overtime, the Legends jumped to an 83-79 spread. Miller nailed two free throws for the final score.
Miller, who also had eight rebounds and six assists, took MVP honors. Charles Mammie topscored with 22 points and hauled down 14 rebounds for Siargao.
Bailey paced Hobe-JVS with 18 points.
Sta. Lucia Land Inc. outplayed Sealions, 98-70, for third place.
