Blu Boys batter Singaporeans, gain world tilt

THE PHILIPPINE Blu Boys are headed for the World Championship in Canada next year.

The Filipinos clinched their berth after dumping host Singapore, 5-2, in the semifinal round of the 2014 Asian Men’s Softball Championship at Kallang Softball Diamond in the city-state.

The Blu Boys also defeated the Singaporeans in the eliminations round, 8-3.

“We’re happy that we were able to make it to the World Championship,” said Jean Henri Lhuillier, the president of the Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines. “We’ll be preparing hard for this tournament.”

But the Blu Boys will have a mountain to climb in their bid to reach the finals. Their next foe is powerhouse Japan, which dealt them a 15-0 thrashing in the eliminations.

The Japanese whitewashed the Indonesians, 4-0, in the other semifinal match.
Incidentally, Indonesia pinned the Blu Boys’ only other defeat in the preliminaries, 9-8.
