Two age-group events usher in another busy triathlon season in January next year.
The Triathlon Association of the Philippines (Trap) opens 2015 with the Philippine Sports Commission aquathlon at Philsports Complex in Pasig City on Jan. 12 and the opening leg of the National Age-Group Triathlon in Subic on Jan. 25.
The aquathlon brackets include the SuperTriKids (STK), 13-15 age-group, as well as the juniors and adults races.
The kickoff leg of the NAGT series will be held at the Sands of Triboa at the Subic Bay Freeport.
The triathlon, which covers a 1.5-kilometer swim, 40 km bike and 10 km run, will also serve as a official qualifying event for the 2016 Philippine National Games.
A sprint race—500-meter swim, 20 km bike and 5 km run—will also be held as a side event with athletes 13-15 years old also taking a crack in the Mini-Sprint (500m swim-16 km bike-2.5 km run).
Backing the races are the PSC, Gatorade, Speedo and Standard Insurance.
Registration fees for the Subic race are pegged at P3,000, P2,500, P2,000 and P7,500 for standard, sprint, mini sprint and relay, respectively. Cedelf P. Tupas
