Blu Boys eye strong Worlds stint

The second-place finish of the Philippine Blu Boys in the recent Asian Men’s Softball Championship in Singapore should augur well in their bid to make an impact in their return to the World Championship next year.

The Blu Boys, who bowed to powerhouse Japan in the finals, are setting their sights on a strong performance in the World Championship in Canada.

“We’re happy with our second-place finish,” said Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines president Jean Henri Lhuillier, who also supports basketball and tennis. “We’re going to prepare hard for next year’s World Championship.”

The Filipinos showed steely resolve in nipping elimination-round conqueror Indonesia, 4-3, to advance to the finals opposite the Japanese.

The Indonesians downed the Blue Boys, 9-8, in the elimination round. But the Filipinos bounced back with a 5-2 dumping of Singapore to reach the semifinals.
