Premier League players express support for AirAsia boss who is also team exec

MANILA, Philippines—The supportive players that they are, a couple of players of the Queens Park Rangers (QPR) have expressed their support and sadness for the ordeal that their boss Tony Fernandes is facing.

QPR center-back Rio Ferdinand posted on his Twitter account that he gives his full support for those connected with the AirAsia flight QZ8501 that went missing just an hour after its take off.

“Thoughts and prayers go out to those connected with the AirAsia flight that is missing, just read about this,” Ferdinand said.

Fernandes, the Group Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia, is the Chairman of the English Premier League football club.

Ferdinand’s teammate Charlie Austin, who was initially excited for their match against Crystal Palace Sunday evening (Manila time), now have his thoughts filled with the nightmare that struck Fernandes.

“It’s matchday but my early morning thoughts and prayers are with AirAsia, Tony Fernandes and everyone associated with the missing plane,” the QPR forward said.

Flight QZ8501, an Airbus A320-200, went missing over the Java Sea on Sunday morning while traveling from Indonesia to Singapore after it encountered bad weather in the area.
