Filipino-British karter Alex Brown clinched the cadet championship of the 2014 Singapore Karting Championship recently with still a round to spare.
The young Singapore-based Brown, whose Filipino mother Tessa Dimaano, settled in the city-state in 2011 with her British banker husband, sealed the crown even before the fifth and final round of the karting season.
Brown actually successfully defended the title he won in 2013. The series was organized and promoted by the Singapore Motor Sports Association.
“It’s been a hard year with very strong competition but this is what makes racing enjoyable for me,” said Brown. “This is what makes winning the title for two years even more awesome.”
Aside from winning the title, Brown holds the official best lap time of the season.
Brown, who was born in Singapore but maintains close ties with his relatives in the Philippines, earlier placed eighth overall out of 30 or so entries in the 2014 Rotax Max Challenge series in Malaysia. The race drew karters from all over Asia.
He intends to vie in the same series this year as well as the World Karting Series in Italy. He dedicates his win to his lola Ramona and hopes to become the first Filipino F1 driver.
