MANILA, Philippines – Alaska Aces head coach Alex Compton thinks the deeper their best-of-seven championship series goes with the San Miguel Beermen gets, the better it is for his team.
Compton also said that it would be impossible to sweep the top-seeded Beermen, who have not lost in over a month.
“I don’t what other people’s opinions are but for me, I think it’s fairly clear that we’re the underdog,” said Compton, who has molded the Aces into one of the best defensive units in the league in just his second conference as head coach.
“And having said that, if the series goes long, it means that we’re still in it so that’s good. If it’s over quick, that’s probably not good for us because I don’t think it’s possible to sweep a team like San Miguel,” Compton added.
The Aces and the Beermen took different routes to get to the Finals.
Alaska needed six bruising games to finish off the second-ranked Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the semifinals while San Miguel swept the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters and will be well-rested come Game 1 of the 2015 PBA Philippine Cup Finals on Wednesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
