SEOUL, South Korea — The South Korean hosts of the 2018 Winter Olympics have ruled out the possibility of sharing some events with North Korea.

Gangwon Province governor Choi Moon-soon said in a statement Monday that it would be “realistically impossible” for Olympic host Pyeongchang to share some of the competitions with North Korea.

Choi said fielding a unified Korean team would be as far as South Korea could go in using the Olympics to promote peace between the countries. Gangwon Province governs Pyeongchang, a ski resort town near South Korea’s eastern coast.
