MANILA, Philippines – Still hoping for a playoff spot, Breadstory took down Wangs Basketball, 97-94, in the eliminations of the PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup Thursday afternoon at the JCSGO Gym.
Wilson Baltazar had 10 points in the extra period, all of which came from the charity stripe, to give some light on the playoff hopes of the 3-5 Breadstory.
With the game tied at 91-91, Baltazar went onto the free-throw line twice and hit four of four to put the boards at 95-91.
Giovanni Jalalon then stole the inbound possession to seal the game.
Breadstory assistant coach Raymund Tiongco said they are still hoping for a playoff spot, and finish the eliminations on a positive note.
“We are still hoping, and we want to win the remaining three games that we have,” Tiongco said of the 8th place Breadstory.
Down four, 82-78, with less than half a minute remaining, John Ferrer of Breadstory hit a three-pointer from the left wing to cut the gap 82-81 with 14.1 seconds remaining.
Paolo Pontejos then sent the game to overtime with a drive to the basket at 3.1 seconds remaining.
Jalalon had an impressive line of 18 points, nine rebounds, six assists and four steals to lead Breadstory.
His teammate Jackson Corpuz also had 18 points with Baltazar and Dexter Zamora adding 14 and 13 respectively.
Paolo Pontejos was the high-point man with 23 while Mark Acosta had 20 for the 2-6 Wangs.
