MANNY Pacquiao is willing to wait for an answer from Floyd Mayweather Jr., but it doesn’t have to be forever.
Pacquiao’s adviser, Mike Koncz, told boxing insider.com that they have set a deadline for the unbeaten American champion to at least drop a hint that he really wants the projected megabuck bout to push through this year.
“We’re giving this (exploratory talks) until the end of the month,” said Koncz. “We’re waiting for word from Floyd. The issue is very sensitive.”
After announcing he wants to fight Pacquiao on May 2, which the Filipino readily accepted, Mayweather has gone silent about the issue, raising doubt as to whether the sure blockbuster fight would eventually happen.
Though Pacquiao and his promoter, Bob Arum, are keen on forging the fight with Mayweather, the Filipino ring icon won’t be lacking in alternative foes if talks do not progress.
Briton Amir Khan, unbeaten World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (29-0, 17 knockouts) and unscathed Jessie Vargas (26-0, 9 KOs) have all expressed willingness to fight Pacquiao soonest.
