Princess Superal will be the player to beat when the 2015 Champion Infinity Philippine Ladies Open gets off the ground tomorrow at the well-manicured Wack Wack West course in Mandaluyong.
Superal, the reigning US Junior Girls champion, will try to win the event for the first time in her career and start the year the way she ended last season when she strung up a total of 12 titles.
The Team ICTSI spearhead lost last year to Supamas Sangchan at Forest Hills in Antipolo, but her recent form—and the absence of Sangchan who has turned pro—makes Superal the logical player to beat.
Thais to beat
Taking the place of Sangchan, who also won at Mount Malarayat the previous year, are three of Thailand’s most promising young talents in Chayanit Wangmahaporn and Pimnipa Wangmahaporn and 17-year-old Kanyalak Preedasutthijit.
Preedasutthijit is the reigning Singha Thailand Amateur champion.
The tournament will also have a lot of foreign flavor with players from Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea and Australia also taking part.
The current stars of Philippine ladies golf like Jennifer Rosales and Cyna Rodriguez have won this event before turning pro.
Other PH contenders
Pauline del Rosario, Sofia Chabon, Michaela Fortuna, Yuka Saso, Sam Green, Sam Martirez, Bernice Olivares-Ilas and Abegail Arevalo, all members of the ICTSI squad coached by Bong Lopez, will all be playing.
