Philippine badminton hopes to end its medal drought through the men’s doubles tandem of Paul Jefferson Vivas and Peter Gabriel Magnaye in the 28th Southeast Asian Games in Singapore this June.
Vivas and Magnaye, the country’s top bets in the event, recently pocketed the men’s doubles title of the Swiss International Badminton Championship 2014 in Yverdon-Les-Bains, Switzerland, and will be strong medal contenders according to Indonesian head coach Paulus Firman.
“Judging from that victory, I think our men’s doubles has a chance (to win a medal) in the SEA Games,” said Firman.
The Philippines last won a SEA Games medal in badminton when siblings Kennie and Kennevic Asuncion placed third in the mixed doubles of the 2003 Games in Vietnam.
