Pagara stakes title vs Chavez

Jason “El Nino” Pagara will try to boost his bid for a world title fight when he defends his WBO international junior welterweight crown against Mexican Cesar “El Dolar” Chavez in the main event of Pinoy Pride 29 slated Feb. 7 at University of Southern Philippines Gym in Davao City.

This will be Pagara’s fifth title defense and he needs to impress ALA Boxing Group president and CEO Michael Aldeguer and get a chance to go to the United States for further training and exposure in preparation for bigger bouts ahead.

Having watched tapes of Chavez’s fights, Pagara yesterday expressed confidence of prevailing in their 12-round tussle.

The event, dubbed as Fists of Fury, will also feature Genesis “Azukal” Servania and “King” Arthur Villanueva, both unbeaten, against Mexican opponents.

Servania will stake his WBO international junior featherweight title against Juan Luis Hernandez in another 12-rounder, while Villanueva will be tested by former WBO flyweight champion Julio Cesar Miranda in a 10-rounder.
