Parks helps Hapee quintet melt hapless Jumbo Plastic

Ray Parks spearheaded a Hapee onslaught to help the Fresh Fighters take the fight out of Jumbo Plastic, 82-56, yesterday and move within a win of an elimination-round sweep in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at JCSGO Gym in Cubao.

The Fresh Fighters, assured of an outright semifinal berth, made it 10 wins in a row. Parks shone in this one, helping Hapee erect leads of as many as 39 points, 76-37.

“The players’ efforts were consistent,” said Hapee coach Ronnie Magsanoc.

Parks, who has been sterling throughout Hapee’s unbeaten run, unloaded a game-high 21 points, hauled down 11 rebounds and posted half of the team’s six blocks.

The Giants, who had hoped to boost their bid for the last twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals fell instead to 6-4 and kept Cebuana Lhuillier (5-4) in the hunt for the bonus.

In other games, Bread Story kept its own quarterfinal bid alive with a 104-85 blasting of MP Hotel, while Racal Motors nipped MJM M-Builders, 94-92.

Bread Story crashed the top six with a 4-5 record as Giovani Jalalon and Jackson Corpuz led scorers with 18 and 17 points, respectively.

“Every game has been hard, but we’re trying to give our best,” said coach Bonnie Tan.
