DOJ, Senate fives gain UNTV Cup 2nd round

Judiciary buried 17 triples and dumped Government Service Insurance System, 110-57, even as Senate and Department of Justice formalized their entry into the second round of the 3rd UNTV Cup held over the weekend at Makati Coliseum.

With former PBA player Ariel Capus at the helm, the Judiciary Magis started hot before ripping the game wide open in the third on the way to completing a five-game sweep of Group B elims.

The Senate Defenders got 22 points and 11 rebounds from Emmanuel Baltazar to down the Metro Manila Development Authority Black Wolves, 91-80, in the other Group B action.

The DOJ Boosters warded off the spirited challenge of the Bureau of Fire Protection Firefighters, 75-69, in their Group A encounter.

Recalling the form that made him one of the deadliest shooters during his era in the defunct Philippine Basketball League, Capus fired 32 points, including 5-of-7 from the 3-point zone as the Magis recorded the biggest winning margin so far.

John Hall and Don Camaso provided Capus support by scoring 11 and 11 points, respectively, in the tournament presented by UNTV led by multiawarded broadcaster Daniel Razon.

Also assured of slots in the second round are defending champion Armed Forces of the Philippines and GSIS, Malacañang, PNP, DOJ and GSIS.
