MANILA, Philippines—Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao has been known to pursue different interests. Aside from being a champion boxer, he is now a congressman, a professional basketball player, a businessman, and an occasional singer.
But is he dabbling into the entertainment sport of wrestling?
He is, at least in the name of comedy.
Comedy site Funny or Die posted a video of Pacquiao exploring the world of professional wrestling while getting mentored by ‘professional wrestling coach’ Chet Carmichael, who was played by American comedian Bryan Huskey.
“Boxing is great. But it doesn’t let me show all the sides of my personality,” Pacquiao said in the video.
“I’ve decided to become a professional wrestler with the help of (comedian) Garry Shandling and (comedy site) Funny Or Die!” the WBO welterweight champion posted in his Twitter account.
Huskey had Pacquiao try different personas.
“If we’re gonna do this, we have to have the right wrestling persona,” Huskey said.
In the video, Pacquiao tried out different personas including being a “diva,” “the dirty politician,” among others.
Wanting to take the persona of a “Flying Filipino,” Pacquiao flew like a butterfly
Pacquiao also got comedy and personality lessons from American comedian Garry Shandling in the video.
