A total of 275 athletes from 29 sports has been approved by the Philippine selection committee for the 28th Southeast Asian Games in Singapore, Philippine chief of mission Julian Camacho announced yesterday.
Camacho said the selection committee composed of Philippine Olympic Committee and Philippine Sports Commission officials are still waiting for equestrian, fencing, squash and volleyball to finalize their lineups.
With this development, Camacho said the size of the national delegation may be known earlier than the targeted deadline of submission of the names of the athletes in April.
Singapore will host the Games on June 5-16 with 402 gold medals at stake in 36 sports.
“We’re still waiting for additional names from some NSAs. Once we complete the list, we will present the entire lineup for approval,” said Camacho during yesterday’s POC general assembly at Wack Wack Golf and Country Club.
The POC headed by Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr. and the PSC will decide the final composition of the delegation, which, Camacho said, will not exceed 350.
