“Very positive.”
This was how Michael Koncz described the meeting between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a Miami hotel suite on Tuesday night.
“You could tell by their body language that this (meeting) was very positive. It was for a good hour or more,” Koncz, Pacquiao’s Canadian adviser, told ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael on Wednesday.
“It was a business meeting, but it wasn’t tense. That’s because they both have mutual respect for each other. We’ll determine what will happen over the next couple of days.”
In a separate interview with the Los Angeles Times, Koncz said that following the Mayweather-Pacquiao encounter, he received confirmation of an agreement between CBS/Showtime chair Leslie Moonves and HBO CEO Richard Plepler that calls for two broadcasters from each network to work the mega fight, if it finally happens.
Koncz, who believes that a Mayweather-Pacquiao showdown would shatter existing boxing records in purses, revenues and viewership, said the brief meeting between the two fighters last Tuesday was a providential act.
That’s because Pacquiao and wife Jinkee opted to watch the Miami Heat-Milwaukee Bucks game at American Airlines Arena after Koncz failed to secure two business-class airline tickets out of Miami for the couple on Tuesday.
It was during halftime of the game that Pacquiao met Mayweather. The American later visited Pacquiao at his hotel suite.
“Like Manny said, ‘It’s God’s will,’” Koncz told LA Times’ Lance Pugmire. “God put us together.” Roy Luarca
