Uno survives MGC in overtime
MANILA, Philippines—Defending champion Uno High School pulled off a 68-63 overtime win over Makati Gospel Church-New Life Christian Academy Saturday night in the 2nd Philippine Ching Yuen Athletic Association (PCYAA) basketball at Uno High Gym in Tondo, Manila.
With top gunner Kyle Tan sidelined by cramps, Kenric Kok presided over Uno’s assault in overtime by scoring five points, including a jumper that gave them a 67-60 lead with 1:58 left.
MGC-NLCA’s Sean Patrick Uy forced the first overtime of the tournament by making a free throw with 4.8 seconds left that deadlocked the count at 57.
Article continues after this advertisementTan still managed to register his fifth double-double in six assignments—and fourth in a row—with 27 points and 16 rebounds.
Kok backed him up with 23 points, six rebounds and six steals.
Meanwhile, Saint Jude Catholic School clobbered Saint Peter the Apostle School, 61-38, to complete a seven-game sweep of the first round of elimination. In another Saturday game, Jubilee Christian Academy cruised to a 68-54 victory over Saint Peter for its third victory in five starts and a share of fourth spot with idle Philippine Cultural College.
