MANILA, Philippines—For promoter Bob Arum, time is of the essence for the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Manny Pacquiao dream showdown to push through on May 2.
As reported by ESPN on Monday, Arum decried the “terrible” lack of urgency in the unbeaten American’s camp, saying the way things are shaping up, Mayweather’s proposed May 2 fight date may no longer be feasible.
“There are issues that should be solved in 10 minutes, but it’s a slow dance,” Arum told ESPN.
“We send one draft to their side and their lawyer sends back a draft with something else that’s an issue. And there doesn’t seem to be any urgency about it on their side. It’s terrible.”
Arum made the statement despite the fact that CBS-Showtime president Les Moonves is now directly involved in the negotiations.
Showtime still has a two-fight deal left in its multimillion contract with Mayweather.
Arum believes Moonves can handle the situation but wonders whether the Mayweather camp is really intent on forging the projected $300-million bout with the Filipino ring icon.
