Jr. NBA camps set for Metro Manila kids

MANILA, Philippines—Young guns can now learn the tricks of big league, NBA style.

Kids from Metro Manila will be the first to partake in the developmental camps of the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Philippines 2015 presented by Alaska which will begin on Sunday, Feb. 8, at Philadelphia High School in Talayan Village, Quezon City.

From Feb. 8 to 27, kids can learn the STAR values of Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA: Sportsmanship, Teamwork, a positive Attitude and Respect.

Alaska Power Camp director Jeffrey Cariaso will lead the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA coaches in the camp including former PBA players Rodney Santos, Eric de la Cuesta and Topex Robinson; Perlas Pilipinas national players Melissa Jacob, Ish Tiu, Mary Joy Galicia and Justine Formata; Coach Louie Gonzalez, Coach Kristoffer Alas and volunteer coaches from Metro Manila.
Following the camp at Philadelphia school are sessions at Jose Rizal University Gym along Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong, on Feb. 11; Garlic Court at Barangay 28, District 2 in Caloocan City on Feb. 14; Tala Glorietta Park in Caloocan on Feb. 15, and Bloomridge Integrated School at Casa Milan, Fairview, Quezon City, on Feb. 17.
Kids who are not studying in the said schools can also participate in the camps.

There would be two sessions for each stop, a morning one from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and an afternoon session from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Following the Metro Manila sessions is the Regional Selection Camps where players would compete in tryouts.

RSC’s will start Feb. 21 to 22 at Seminario de San Jose in Puerto Princesa to be followed by Biñan, Laguna, from Feb. 28 to March 1 at Alonte Sports Arena; Iloilo at Ateneo de Iloilo from March 7 to 8; Baguio at St. Louis University from March 14 to 15; Bacolod at St. John’s Institute from March 21 to 22; Davao from March 28 to 29 and Manila at the PICC Forum from April 11 to 12. 50 boys and 24 girls will be chosen to participate in the 8th annual Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA National Training Camp from April 24 to 26.

More than 26,000 players and 2,000 coaches have participated in the program since its launch in 2007 with 700 schools and communities taking part.
