Mabiliran stuns drag race stars
UNHERALDED Mark Mabiliran ruled the Expert class in the recent kickoff of the 2015 National Drag Racing Championship Southern Series at Batangas Racing Circuit in Rosario.
After hurdling his first-round foes, Mabiliran turned back Sherwin Joseph Berania, Haime Bora and Anthony Alcala in the next rounds and survived his semifinal duel with John Jeremie Cabreros to arrange a final showdown with 16-year-old Chris Jayson Millet.
Mabiliran gained comfortable distance midway the quarter-mile course en route to victory in 13.648 seconds.
Article continues after this advertisementMillet, whose elder brother and defending champion Arvin Jay was booted out in the early rounds, clocked 14.352 seconds for runner-up honors.
Sharing the limelight with Mabiliran were Robert Palmero II and Cer Oliriz Alcala.
Palmero clinched the Sportsman title in 14.731 seconds run, narrowly escaping Sherwin Jay Esguerra (14.777). Arvin Jay Millet copped third place.
